The release of the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 was met with widespread acclaim, notably for its flagship multiplayer mode. Just on Steam, live player figures peaked at nearly 750,000. However, in spite of its success, a growing number of players are voicing discontent with a portion of the release's most difficult challenges, which are necessary to access certain guns.
Gamers have begun turning to tailored sessions made via the Portal feature to achieve these objectives, highlighting just how demanding these challenges have become.
Assignments are Battlefield 6's ongoing multiplayer objectives, different from the frequently updated everyday and weekly missions. It features four categories of assignments, but where most merely grant skins and a few gadgets, completing the weapon assignments is the sole method of obtaining twelve from the forty-one main guns present in the game.
Some of these gated guns might eventually make their appearance on rankings for the best guns in Battlefield 6.
On Reddit, players are justifiably voicing their concerns about how difficult and grindy several of these challenges are. One user highlighted one of the most outrageous examples, required to unlock the KTS100 MK8 LMG:
"This mission is so terrible and entirely ill-conceived, I want to gouge my eyes out," is a quote that summarizes just how excessively challenging these tasks are.
The suppression feature in the game is less effective than in previous titles in the series, so it has significantly fewer positive effects in fights as it used to in previous games. It only tallies as suppression if you miss multiple shots in a row.
Additionally, hipfiring an LMG is extremely unreliable and functions solely at extremely close range, which is seldom the location you want to be. The same user also noted the contradiction in the SMG challenge, to unlock the SCW-10, which needs takedowns using ADS, when that task would be far more appropriate to hipfire kills, and the other way around.
Another Reddit user highlighted an additional excessively hard challenge, this time in the marksman rifle class to access the PSR:
This is difficult enough by itself, but there's another important point to consider: the majority of Battlefield 6 maps don't even support combat at such a long range.
There is a decent selection of map sizes, but since there are only nine battlegrounds in the game at present, it means you're limited to playing New Sobek City, a particular valley environment, and perhaps Operation Firestorm in a best-case scenario if you want to snipe from beyond 200 meters.
Nevertheless, a method exists: Battlefield Portal. The custom game creator is a tool that allows you to create personalized matches on whatever map you choose, including AI opponents. This allows you can bypass the intended method… but it doesn't really seem like the intended gameplay experience.
However, when completing the missions in a proper game seems counterproductive, since you have to play in such an unorthodox manner that doesn't benefit you or your team, who can fault a player for completing them in a private match so teammates aren't hindered?
It should not be shocking if a number of these missions are made easier in the near future, because if they're not, certain gamers simply will never acquire the gated weapons.
For now, the community continues to express their views on these demanding in-game tasks, hoping for a more balanced gaming experience in subsequent patches.
