Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
In the vein of the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will meet again some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a breakout star from the previous film.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The movie will welcome back of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
The upcoming Mario film is scheduled to arrive around the time of the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 looks set to be a major period for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo has three new games already confirmed for the upcoming year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
